A note from Norianne Kirkpatrick, Chair of the Board
Few of us appreciate what living an independent life means until
it is taken away from us either by accident, illness or just the
twists and turns of life itself.
Facing a life of dependency can be a challenge at best and devastation
at worst. We are so lucky that few years ago a handful of people
in our area had the vision to start up an Independent Living Resource
Centre to show people with disabilities and their families that
independence is a very real and attainable goal, and to provide
the tools to that end.
It is all too easy for some of us who have reached a high measure
of independence to get wrapped up in our own busy lives and to
forget that others are just starting out on that long journey.
In that light I feel privileged to be a part of the Independent
Living movement as Chair of the Board and to see what a difference
we have made in our community and the lives of our many consumers.
You too can be a part of the Independent Living movement. We need
YOUR support.
