words of thanks

Our ILRC is a service organization. It is very gratifying to receive unsolicited letters from people who have been helped by our programs. Here is what two recent graduates of our Life Skills Workshop had to say about their experience

Lifeskills has been a wonderful tool for me. I've learned how to better my communication skills and to fully understand my behaviours and how they affect other people.

We talk in group about what's really happening for us in our lives and how to deal with those issues at that time. We all work together as a team giving feedback to help each other grow so we can move forward to be able to ask the questions and get the answers we're looking for in everyday life.

I can't tell you how many skills I've learned through lifeskills. It has opened many doors. I can move forward and feel proud of myself. The only person I can change is myself. I can see many wonderful changes ahead. I'm so grateful that independent living gave us the opportunity to have lifeskills training. Without them we couldn't have done it.

Thanks to the people place and the people who work there.

I came into the Lifeskills program desiring to better my communication abilities, although not knowing exactly what all was contained within it.

As the teaching progressed, I realized that the more input I contributed to the process, the more output & benefits I would receive! Each one of the students were able to draw information, feedback & empowering tools, from other students, & ongoing experiences, during our weeks of learning. The lessons & revelations, that I have gained in this class, are too numerous & detailed to expound on in this small space!!! I need to say that I have been greatly rewarded by the cooperation, I harmony & support that I have partaken of in our group.

The skills that I have been developing now, are ones that I can incorporate into my everyday life & use in the future as well. Behaviour rating was one of the lessons that impressed me the most!

Not only have we, the people in my lifeskills class, been learning about our issues and the different methods to deal with our past and present day habits, we have also been making & developing new friendships with each other.

Anyone considering taking this course, is greatly encouraged to do so. Any negative experiences I have encountered here have been eclipsed & far outweighed by the positive ones!!! I hope that no one denies themselves of the privilege & joy that can be gained from these few short weeks of sabbatical from the routine everyday mode of existence!

Much thanks goes out to the British Columbia Independent Living Resource Center(Vernon Branch), especially Brenda Bryan. Without their valued support, use of materials and rooms this program would not have been possible at this time! I appreciate the consideration that was shown towards our group's trainers, in allowing this project to take place at this time & for the use of the facilities at The People Place.

Encouraging independent living benefits us all. We hope that you will play your part by supporting our efforts with your time, energy and your check book. Become a member today. It costs very little, but it means so much.
