Like all fisherman, the members of the Lonely Loons like to "Spin a Good Yarn" every now and again.  Sometimes we will even have pictures to prove that these good tales are in fact true!  Take a look through our photo archives to see the ones that didn't get away, and the stories behind the capture!

If you have a good story that others could enjoy, feel free to submit it to our Society, and maybe it will be printed.  Don't forget that your story can include pictures and computer links to other sites, while your submission should also include the details of:  date, time, location, and flies used.

KIDS DAY!!! June 2006
We have started the grand tradition of helping sponsor the KIDS DAY fishout.  Through
the day we believe it is not only our pleasure, but our duty to teach responsible fish and wildlife
management.  Besides, we get to pass on some of our secrets to successful aquatic acquisition! But,
you have to join our club if you really want to know all of the tricks of the trade!

So with volunteers in line, we are off to set up the site for another successful Kids Day 2006!

With enough rods, lines, lures and flies, we may have enough to catch something to feed the entire army of people that have come out for the day!

Nothing wrong with spending the day with a line in the water, with a bunch of people who have the same plan in mind!  I bet they will be just as successful as member Ed. O.!  Ok, maybe the kids will actually catch something!

Yes, children, the man in the boat is not standing up, and has his life jacket on underneath his jacket!

And like any good day of fishing, it ended with a good bonfire, stories of the one that got away, and laughter.  Thanks again to our hearty group of volunteers!

Spring Lake Cleanup, 2006

That road may not be that long to Spring Lake, just outside of Peachland, but some of those trees can mark up our "real-purdy" trucks!  So every now and again, we have to blaze a trail!

Glenn "Bunyan" W. saw (or should we say axe) fit, to clear the way to make the site a little more accessible!

Hugh "-ing wood" M. stares in disbelief that he has to use an axe for this job!  But, at least he has the right shirt for the job!  We were sure we could faintly hear him singing:

"I'm a lumber jack, I work all day..."

Then to the joy and happiness of fisher-people everywhere (o.k., fishermen, since there were no women-folk about), there was the whine of a chain saw!

We were sure we could faintly hear Glen W. singing:
"I'm a lumber jack, I work all day..."

Then in our little boats (because it is not the size of the boat, but how big your paddle is), we made our way to the aerator, to secure floats, anchors, and signs to warn those in the winter time...we care!

And just when you thought that we merely cleared bush, someone thought to bring a boat and some fishing rods!  Go figure!

So, thanks again to the men that came out and helped with the Spring Lake Cleaning 2006!

Adventures in Fishing

Rick B. goes out one fine early November day, and catches himself a "Ling Cod", a.k.a. burbot.  Here I thought only scuba divers were able to catch them. He said you troll exactly like you do for ocean-going cod!

Here's some of the more sturdy members of our group putting in the aerator at Spring Lake.  Looks like fun, wish I could have been there!

Time to put the silly thing into the water!  Who would have expected that it would have been so large and cumbersome.  Gee, the one in my fishtank ain't nearly so complicated!

But...before we get this thing into the water, we should probably put the air hose on it!  By the way, who is that going out fishing?

Wow, it is floating?  Wonder if we put all the bolts in the right places?

KIDS DAY!!! June 2005

Ah, the monsters that were caught that day.  I am pretty sure that the fish is the same size as the one caught by President Paul!

June 2005
And in no time flat, the young lad has the hang of it.  In fact, we think the technique is just as good as Bob's!

June 2005
While the kiddies fish, the men assemble the tent.  The magic in the process is that they actually got it assembled before the end of the day!

June 2005
No, they are not preparing the gill nets, they are getting the site prepared for fun, excitement and safety!

June 2005
"No, I caught the biggest fish back in 1963!" The debate rages on, and only the location changes!

June 2005

Of course fishing is the priority of the day, but eating the delicious lunch is a very close second!

June 2005
Might be the weirdest looking fish caught that day, but at least the company was good!

June 2005
The weather was so lovely that day, the lassies had to use their parasols to keep from being overwhelmed by the sunshine.  Ok, maybe not, but "a day fishing is better than a day at work!"

June 2005
Once again, it's not the size of the fish, but the size of the heart of the angler!

Thanks for another successful year in helping the kids of the Okanagan!

Perry and Chad at Bear Lake for one of the famous Lonely Loon Flyfishers Fish-outs, on 14 June 2003.  A great day was had by all, while the fishing was excellent!

Another great day at Pennask Lake, where the weather was fine.  We're still wondering what Bill is holding up at the end of his hook.  He can't be telling us that it is a fish.

The Loons are out in full force, cleaning up Brandt's Creek, so that the fish and habitat will continue for years to come.

Yes, Ed, this is one of the more action-oriented shots we have seen from you in a LONGG....time!  Keep up the good work!

Organization is something that the Loons are very good at...it's just to bad that getting the work done must also  be accomplished by us!

The Lonely Loons, not quite so lonely, as the devote their efforts to making the Okanagan a better place for people and wildlife, alike.

How about this sturgeon!! 6'2', probably over 150 lb., caught in Fraser near Chilliwack, 9 August. That's Glen struggling to hold the small end, with Danny our guide. Jack, Jim and I spent a great day with Danny on his 23ft covered jet boat, caught four sockeye, one jack spring, plus lost two large springs through inexperience.
